White Gold Engagement Ring Cheap, Wedding band questions - a lot of them ?

Q.We've begun the process of looking for wedding bands, and I have a few technical questions. First of all, my engagement ring is 14K white gold. There is a slight "warping" at the back of it, which seems to have been caused by the person doing the filing going a little nuts. I'd like to get that fixed so that it can at least sit on another ring without having a huge gap. So this makes me wonder, is the jeweler we got the engagement ring from any good, or should I go somewhere else to get it fixed?

A.My engagement ring is 14k white gold. I've been wearing it for about 15 months and it hasn't changed color at all. OTOH, we bought my wedding band from a jeweller who specialized in silver, but promised he could do white gold well. The band is already somewhat yellow and we'll probably get a new one later this year. Fortunately, white gold is pretty cheap right now (about $70 for my band at a retail store and we paid less). Even with the different colors, it doesn't look strange. My Mum has a white gold engagement ring and a yellow gold wedding band and they look good together. So, don't stress too much over this. No one but you will notice if they don't match and you'll probably find it charming very quickly. (I don't care to get a new band but DH thinks it's important.) I think that if you believe the original jeweler did something wrong with the ring which caused the warping, then take the ring back and ask him/her what happened, and how it can be fixed. If you don't get a reasonable answer, then find another jeweler. This is the first I've heard of that. I have white gold that is brand new, and white gold that is 40 years old, and none of it is yellowing/has yellowed. Is it possible that s/he was trying to express that there is no standard color of white gold, and that depending on the alloy mixture, it can be anywhere from super white to somewhat yellowy? Maybe? I don't know. I do know that I've never noticed any change in color of any of my white gold (besides the dulling of my e-ring, with daily wear, but I think that is due to scratching, etc.)
