earring Diamond for old guys.Q.These days, I'm a much more vanilla looking and acting guy (the mushrooms I eat now are more likely to be gourmet than psychedelic, my hair is short, and I wear khakis and a button down shirt most days), but I still play several gigs a year, and enjoy the occasional night out clubbing (think jazz and blues). And on those occasional evenings when I throw on my glad rags, I like to wear an earring (only one, my left ear closed up years ago). The question is, what sort of earring should a part time musician, artist and general cool guy wear when he's not disguised as a mild mannered father of two and conservative business owner? A.Keep it simple. Just a single stud-type earring will do. Understated will fit the picture you have painted of yourself. I like the look of a small (but not too tiny or too thin) silver hoop, personally. If gold is more your taste, a gold hoop would be good as well. If the hoop looks or feels like too much, then a stud would be the way to go (choose your preference, gold or silver; diamond if you want, but I think that can be a little flashy). And I totally second the suggestion someone made about asking women you know if they have any widowed earrings before you buy any. Why, even I have a lone gold stud whose mate went to the great jewelry store in the sky some time ago. I bet you won't have to look any farther than your wife's jewelry box (unless she has very frilly taste in earrings). Actually, we've already gone down that route, but her taste in earrings runs to larger hoops, danglies, and more jewels than I could ever pull off. She's a real earring hound - says she feels naked without them. there are lots of options, but I got the impression that you wanted something classic, tasteful, relatively understated, and appropriate for most styles of dress and situations. Anything other than a hoop or a stud is probably going to stand out more, but on the other hand, maybe that's what you want.
