Jewelry Man Ring
Q.We are going to be getting engaged soon, and I was trying to collect all information about: engagement process... Is it "traditional" to give the man an engagement ring? Any suggestions/ advice for me?? Give me some experience also as soon as possible because I'm very in need these information!
A.No and yes. No, in the sense that far more women than men wear engagement rings. Very few engaged women *don't* wear a ring, while an equally small number of men *do.* Yes, in the sense that, from the beginning of the 20th century, etiquette books have said that the bride-to-be may give her fiancé an engagement ring or other gift if she wishes. Emily Post editions of the 1930s went into excruciating detail about what birthstones could be used in men's rings and which were inappropriately feminine. You can safely ignore these "rules" now. If you don't give your fiancé an engagement ring, no one will ask why he doesn't have one. But if he wants one, he ought to receive it! You probably won't find an "engagement ring" section in the men's part of a jewelry store, but any sort of man's ring that you both like is fine (as is any sort of women's ring for yours -- you don't have to wear a diamond or get a matching wedding/engagement set).
