Jewlery making isn't profitable ?Q.I was curious on how to turn a profit on Jewlery making ? Can one turn profit by selling to a merchant the jewelery you made ? I made a lapis necklace yesterday and was going to sell it. But the cost didn't equal up to the materials I put into it. Therefore I would have waisted money. Does anyone have any hints and suggestions to negate cost and improve profitability +? Also what benifit is Jewlery ? do the stones have protection properties eg. vs poison ? A.Verant considers this a feature. If you could make much of a profit just by dealing with merchants, it's be a non-stop money train. I'm not sure why you'd waste time on the non-stop money train when you can hop on the non-stop money+XP train instead, but someone would surely find it objectionable, if for no other reason than that they didn't do it, too. Sell to players. Since the "economy" on Everquest only works with items that let you kill things better, your lapis necklace is just about worthless, except to a merchant (who will pay you despite the fact that he can't sell the necklace, either.) Perhaps if Verant had let you customize the appearance of your character, and jewelry would show up, people would be interested, but as it is, only the magical sorts of jewelry will earn you a profit. (You _might_ find a die-hard roleplayer willing to pay you to make Engagement/Wedding rings.) Even if you find some of the components rather than buy them, there's still no added value to making them into jewelry over selling the gems separately. t varies depending on the stone and the metal. You have to use enchanted metal, which requires the series of enchanter spells "Enchant Silver", etc. Thus, jewelry is pretty much useless for non-enchanters. (Consider that many enchanters will also be jewelers, and have next to no motiviation to create competition for themselves by enchanting metal for you.) Jewelry made without enchanted metal is just pretty, but has no powers, despite the implication in the jewelry instruction book. I saw somewhere that "giant fire beetle eyes" have a charge on Enchant Silver on them. I don't know where you might find a giant fire beetle, as opposed to the regular sort (Karanas, at a wild guess). But other than that, you'll be dependent on friendly enchanters, AFAIK. If you're not an enchanter, you're probably better off picking another craft skill. (I'm just stubborn, personally; I don't argue that it's worthwhile, I just do jewelry anyway. But you've got to waste money somewhere. It's not all about having the highest level and the best toys.) If you do pick another craft skill, remember the "lets you kill things" rule if you want to profit. Smithing lets you sell armor to PCs; every other smithable is just about worthless. (And with the baby-boom effect, pay close attention to the market of levels low enough to want banded armor still on your server. There may not be enough newbies/ alternate characters left to make it worthwhile.) Tailoring is the same way, but there's even fewer people that want patchwork. Cooking and brewing are for your own entertainment only. Fletching is good if you're a ranger; they'll all have it, and no one else will really care much, so there's not much market there. And if you just want money, it's probably faster to go bash things anyway. Craft skills are just for breaking the monotony.
