Making REALLY fine "italian" like jewlery boxes ?

Q.I'm not an expert wood worker, but I have some tools and I can do some good damage. So I saw a REALLY REALLY gorgeous italian jewelry box, highly shined, beautiful felt-liek inside, etc. So I said "I can try that, maybe come close, and the wife will love it". It would take my 6 months, but hey, that's part of the fun. So I did a nice complicated designed modeled after an existing one in a store, even built a foam-core mockup to make sure everything looked OK. Had a nice locking lid, nice inset drawer with little divisions, even a necklass hanger. Well, needless to say for those very fine cuts, etc, my tools weren't nearly fine enough, including my radial arm saw, no matter how well I calibrated it. I needed like 1/32 or even 1/64 exact cuts and I wasn't even coming close. So, my question is, what type of materials/equipment is needed if I ever try to accomplish this again in the future? Is it even possible for a person out of their garage with "less than a $1 million dollars" worth of equipment?

A.Well, needless to say for those very fine cuts, etc, my tools weren't nearly fine enough, including my radial arm saw, no matter how well I calibrated it. I have very few tools, and the few I do have aren't exactly very high quality. I got my table saw for $40 at a garage sale. What I'm getting at is that you could make beautiful, precise jewelry boxes even with a hand saw and chisel. If you didn't manage with the power tools you have now perhaps you should give it a try with a nice hand saw. I spent endless, frustrating hours fighting with a dovetail jig trying to get my dovetails to come out perfect. The jig wasn't all that good even though I paid about $75 for it. So, I went out and bought a good quality Japanese saw for $27, did some practice runs, and now make beautiful dovetails that come out perfect almost every time. I did quite a bit of reading up on how to do it, but in the end it worked. You can have a look at my jewelry boxes at the URL below to see what can be done out of a garage with few tools.
