Fashion Gold Hawaii Jewelry
Q.i might be able to spend a week in hawaii over spring break.. (second week of april) any special "beauty" places i should visit? also information on leis, puka shells and those gold bar pendants/rings (you know, the ones with your name on them)and where i can get them for good prices would be *greatly* appreciated! any other pretty things i should know about? it's my first time in hawaii....
A.I'm not sure what you meant by "beauty places" but there are many spas on Maui, Oahu and Kauai that are excellent. As far as the Hawaiian jewelry goes most of our jewelry stores will order bracelets, rings, pendants for you. There is also a store called Hawaiian Heritage that specializes in this kind of jewelry. It is done in 14kt gold and your name is either done in enameling or raised gold. Local ladies are named by either a Kapuna or elder and given their special name which is engraved on their jewelry. Puka shell necklaces were very popular in the 70's and we used to find the shells ourselves, string them and then sell them to tourists along Kam Highway on the way to Sunset Beach or Haleiwa. Now they are found at Flea markets, Woolworth, or some discount stores. The shells come from the Philippines, I think. Lei's can be found all most everywhere from supermarkets to lei stands at the airport and most florists carry them or will order for you. I hope I was able to help you out...Have a great trip!
