Q.Can anyone give any general examples of what kinds of gifts are given to the best man and matron of honor? The first thing that came to mind was a high-quality pen , but surely there have to be some options a skosh more creative. Also, any examples of gifts from the groom to the bride? I'm sure this is frequently a negligee or something even more risque, but I wonder what other kinds of things are typical.
A.My bridesmaids are receiving opal necklaces from me to wear with their dresses. I decided to go with a single piece of higher-quality jewelry rather than a matched set (earrings & necklace) of lower-quality jewelry. (Of course, if I could afford it I would have gotten them earrings to match, but that was outside of my budget.) My fiance is giving his groomsmen monogrammed briefcases from Land's End. His best man had previously admired my fiance's Land's End briefcase and talked about how much he'd like to have one, and his other groomsman is his younger brother who will no doubt be able to make good use of the gift. The traditional thing is jewelry to wear with her dress. An *extremely* traditional option is a string of pearls, assuming the neckline of the dress allows such. However, The department stores seem like they'd be 'way overpriced, but the discount jewelers where I went for engagement and wedding rings didn't seem to have pearls (though I may be mistaken on this last point).
