Diamond Stud Earring White Gold
Q.I am considering using the 2 diamonds from my Grandmother's engagement ring (which was left to me but is far too big to wear) to make a pair of stud earrings to wear on my wedding day next year. The diamonds are approx 1/4 carat and the ring is white gold (is that the same as platinum?), so perhaps it could be used for the backs, as I need them to be silver coloured rather than gold. Can anyone tell me approximately how much it would cost to have this done? Is it possible to give a price without seeing the diamonds or do I really need to take them to a jeweller in order to get an idea of the cost?
A.white gold and platinum are not the same thing. platinum is the rarest and most precious metal known to man. Platinum is 100% pure. On the other hand, white gold is gold and has other alloys included in it. It is not recommended to use the existing gold to make your earrings, because of the intense labor that it would take to make such a small rather inexpensive stud for your earrings.
