Reputable Diamond Broker
Q.I have decide to take the plunge and get married. Unfortunately finding an engagement ring is harder than I thought. Can anyone recommend a good diamond broker or jewelry store in the Triangle area
A.Visit Charles Frank/Goldsmith at 1633 N. Market Square in Raleigh (the store is in a shopping center at the split between Wake Forest Rd. and Falls of the Neuse). Mr. Frank will be very meticulous in teaching you about diamonds before showing you any. Of all the jewelers I dealt with in Raleigh, I felt the most at ease with him. He also makes his own gold jewlery. I had him make a custom setting for my wife's engagement ring, and it was really unusual and eye catching (she still gets lots of compliments on it 2 years later). BTW, a word of advice when shopping for diamonds: before plunking down any cash, shop several places. After you get familiar with the diamond grading system, start looking at the stones under a microscope. Any decent store will not only allow you, they will encourage it. After you've looked at some, you get a feel what is a decent stone and what isn't. You won't have the skill of a gemologist, but you can often find what is a junk stone that the dealer is trying to pass off as "exceptional". I unfortunately ran into that a few times at some stores, so my quick education while shopping kept me from being taken in a big way.
