wedding rings ?Q.We are currently shopping for wedding rings (we'd like to get matching), and ran into a possible "snag". He had my engagement ring custom made, and the "basket" that holds the diamond is wider than the band, and sits low, so the ring will not sit flush against most (if not all) wedding bands. So I guess I have 2 options: 1. Deal with how it looks to have my engagement ring sit away from my wedding band on my finger. And the jeweler said the two rings rubbing against each other (the basket against the wedding band) may eventually wear both rings in a bad way. (?) OR 2. Custom design and order (they would have to keep my engagement ring for 4 weeks!) a wedding band that will fit around the diamond (like a wrap, I guess) This will cost about double compared to a regular band, even if I don't get any diamonds in it! I would like to know if anyone else ran into this problem. If so, what did you decide to do? A.My engagement ring will not sit flush against any wedding bands either. I am not married yet, but have decided that I will just wear my engagement ring on the ring finger on my right hand and my wedding band on the left. I would much rather have matching bands than have something that would fit under my E ring which would have to be custom made also and, because of the shape of the bottom of my E ring, wouldn't look like a wedding band. This is what I thought I would do, but I don't like having a ring on my right hand (it turns out). I am saving up to have my engagement ring moved to a custom setting which my wedding ring will nest inside. (My wedding ring is curved, and my engagement ring has a wide flat bezel setting ... basic nightmare, I couldn't have picked worse!) We had all 3 of our rings made; we found the cost to be cheaper than "ready-made", since making a ring = working directly with the wholesale manufacturer. The only additional cost was paying for the ring's "wax molds", which ran about $35 per band. But since we weren't paying retail, the overall cost was less than what we'd seen in stores. Be aware that platinum is about 3x more expensive than white gold. My rings are white gold, my husband's is a platinum and yellow gold mix. My wedding band cost $150 (3 mm wide, size 6 women's, custom-fit for my engagement ring). The design is very similar to one offered by Tiffany's -- for $450. Dave's ring was $850 (9 mm wide, men's size 10, 2 outer bands of platinum, 1 inner band of yellow gold). Similar men's rings at Macy's were running over $2K.
